SALT - Timelapse Photography

"The time-lapse sequences in the SALT documentary were shot with a simple Digital SLR camera. Thousands of normal still frames were shot over a period of time then assembled in sequence and played back at 25 frames per second. Sometimes the camera was placed on a 'panning table', a small moving head that could be timed to move in sync with the shutter, allowing the angle of view to change through the sequence. (...)"

Synopsis

SALT is the story of award winning and internationally renowned photo-artist, Murray Fredericks on his annual solo pilgrimage to the heart of Lake Eyre in the remote north corner of South Australia. It is a piece on the personal journey of the artist, the creative process and the landscape itself.

Alone on the most featureless landscape on earth, Murray's personal video diary captures the beauty of this bleak, empty and desolate environment - and provides the catalyst for an unexpected personal transformation.

Told with subtlety, care and gentle, dry humour, SALT is the story of what emanates from emptiness. By combining the breathtaking imagery of this surreal landscape with the hauntingly delicate sounds of Aajinta's Harmonic Spheres, it attempts to identify what lies beneath the surface of our reality and how 'something' can be produced from 'nothing'.

SALT interweaves Murray's sublime pictures, with innovative time-lapse sequences, and illuminating and exposing video diary excerpts. Stripped back to its essentials, Murray's emotional and mind altering rollercoaster ride is told through a fusion of personally reflective sound bytes and satellite phone conversations with his wife and family at home in Sydney.

Totally isolated, with only the horizon line as his reference point, and thoughts as his only companion, Murray is forced to overcome the environmental elements of rain, mud plains, lightning, equipment failure and the ever intrusive salt. The resulting photographs are not just sublime pictures of a remote and surreal location - they are still points that punctuate a journey of the mind and spirit.

Ara Gueler, Retrospektive

Ara Güler gilt noch immer als das Aushängeschild unter den türkischen Fotografen. Gemessen an Künstlern wie Bresson hat Güler nicht nur der türkischen Fotografie seinen Stempel aufgedrückt, sondern auch der Türkei und seinen Menschen ein bis dahin nicht gekanntes Gesicht verliehen. Unter der zahlreichen Publikation die im laufe seines Lebens veröffentlicht wurden, hatte ich das Glück 'Ara Güler - Retrospektive / Jahre Fotojournalismus' zu erstehen, dass dreisprachig, leider nicht als Hardcover, aber als ausgesprochen guter Druck, erschienen ist. Die, die das Glück haben sollten ein Exemplar in die Finger zu kriegen, sollten es erstehen. ]]>

Durchboxen

Gut zwei Jahre ist es jetzt her, dass ich mit 'Durchboxen' mein Diplom an der KHM in Köln gemacht habe. Damals noch in der Position des Beobachters hat mich das Boxfieber längst auch gepackt. Im nachhinein würde man zwar immer alles anders und besser machen, aber ich finde, dass sie sich noch immer sehen lassen kann. Wer sie die Arbeit nochmal anschauen will, kann das Buch als pdf runteladen oder für 15Euro als Buch bei mir bestellen.]]>

Wie oft kann man ein Stück hören, bis man keine Lust mehr darauf hat!? Die EP Auskopplung Hypnotized von Oliver Koletzki feat. Fran, welche am 3. August offitiell erscheint, hat jedenfalls jetzt schon eine ernome Harbwertszeit. Chillig, sommerlich und in jedem Fall immer noch vorne. Meiner Meinung nach jetzt schon der geheime Sommer-Clubhit 2009.

Neulich bin ich wieder auf die wunderbare Arbeit von Simon Hoegsberg "We´re All Gonne Die - 100 meters of existence" gestossen. Eine 100 m lange Fotostrecke, von einer Position aus aufgenommen und zu einem Fash Panorama montiert. Hoegsbergs Arbeit ist ein großartiges Beispiel, wie aus der Kombination unterschiedlicher Techniken und Technologien neue visuelle Räume entstehen können.]]>
